Robert Patrick’s expansive symbolic paintings chronicle his sensory perceptions and experiences. Repetitive shapes ripple across canvas tarpaulins installed nearly flush to the gallery walls. Cadence and rhythm infuse Patrick’s patterns and document his multi-sensory reflections of being present in the moment. Patrick explains: “I paint fantasy environments as metaphors for landscapes of the mind, the imagery a product of combining senses shaped not only by light, but by sounds, smells, touch, and taste.” Patrick translates these moments into spontaneous mark-making and builds vast images that create an immersive viewing experience.
