Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rent space in the Lincoln Park Building’s clay studio?

Yes. More details here. To check availability or be added to the waitlist, please email the clay studio at claystudio@duluthartinstitute.org.

Can I or my child take a class under the listed age limit?

Age limit exceptions are handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the instructor’s preference and subject matter. To ask about children under the age limit attending, email Education Coordinator Jesse Switters at jswitters@duluthartinstitute.org.

How do I apply for an education scholarship?

There is no formal application and selection process. If you would like to request a partial or full scholarship and find out about availability, email Education Coordinator Jesse Switters at jswitters@duluthartinstitute.org.

Do you have a darkroom?

No. The Bruce Ojard Darkroom, previously located in the St Louis County Depot, was closed in early 2023. Our photography studio in the Lincoln Park Building is suitable to take photos, but we no longer have the capacity to develop film.

How can I get my work shown in the DAI galleries?

You have three opportunities. The DAI hosts an open call for solo and group shows through Submittable about once every two years. Applicants are selected by a panel of art professionals. You may also apply to the Arrowhead Regional Biennial every two years. DAI members may submit one piece of art to the DAI’s Annual Member Show. To keep updated about upcoming calls for art, sign up for our eNewsletter and follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

Can you appraise artwork?

No. We do not provide appraisal services. Peter Spooner at Archive Arts, LLC is a local professional appraiser: https://nextdoor.com/pages/archive-arts-llc-duluth-mn/
