Our Ceramics Studio
The Duluth Art Institute’s Lincoln Park Building (2229 W 2nd Street) houses a fully equipped ceramics studio accommodating beginning to advanced potters and ceramic artists. The studio provides throwing wheels, hand-building and wedging tables, a slab roller, spray booth, glaze room, and related hand tools. The studio also boasts four electric kilns and one large gas kiln.
Artists interested in renting space should contact the studio manager for more information: claystudio@duluthartinstitute.org. Registered students have access to the studio during opening hours, generally 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call 218-723-7110 or check our calendar for the latest ceramics classes.

Apply
Ceramic studio space rental requests are reviewed on an ongoing basis depending on availability. We encourage you to apply, even if you are added to a waitlist.
Requirements
- Maintain an active DAI membership
- Participate in studio upkeep and meetings
- Clay purchases from the DAI
- An interview which includes providing work samples
Recommendations
- Take at least one class at the DAI Ceramics Studio each year

- Complete an application online or in person. Please email us to get a paper copy of the application.
- The DAI will contact you when your application is received and let you know where you are in the process. Please know, work samples are required prior to an interview.
- At the time of an in-person interview, bring samples of your work. The interview will be with at least one studio artist and a DAI staff member.

Ceramic Classes
All Ceramics students may access the clay studio outside of class hours during the weeks of the class sessions. We require a monitor to be on duty and that schedule is provided at the beginning of the classes. Check the DAI event calendar for the latest ceramic classes.
Materials included with your class tuition
Students receive one bag of clay with a standard studio class and may purchase additional clay onsite. For the duration of their class, students have access to the tools and equipment in the studio. Class work will be fired by the instructor.
